My name is Suzanne M. Pittman, and I am currently pursuing a Ph. D in Physics at Harvard University. I graduated (with highest honors) from the University of California, Davis in Spring '08 with a Bachelor's of Science in Physics. However, I only spent the junior and senior years of my undergraduate education at UC Davis. Before I transferred to UC Davis, I spent the first two years of my undergraduate education at San Joaquin Delta College, a community college.

While in itself it is quite uncommon to go from community college to a graduate program at Harvard, it is very rare that someone goes from pursuing a professional ballet career to a Ph.D in Physics at Harvard. This is the story of my life, and in the Guides section of this website, I depict my experiences in order to show what it takes to make a similar journey as myself. While at first it was really hard to turn away from my dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer when I started college, at least I had the opportunity to teach ballet at Hutchins Street Square throughout my undergraduate years. However, after taking my first ever physics class in college, I whole-heartedly decided to devote my life to a new passion- Physics.

In the Research section of this website, I describe in my specific research interests and provide links to my CV/resume and publication list. My general research interests lie in Condensed Matter Theory. In the past I had the opportunity to explore Experimental Nuclear Physics (Ultra-Relativistic Collisions at RHIC) when I attended the REU Program at UC Davis in the summer of 2006. This is when I discovered that I officially was not interested in doing experiemntal work, regardless of whether it allowed me to create simulations all day.
